SCORE Philadelphia, in collaboration with the Community College of Philadelphia's Power Up Your Business program, is sponsoring four free workshops focusing on starting and growing your business - the first steps in creating inter-generational wealth.

MED Week offers a venue for minority-owned firms to access information, tools and resources to grow their businesses through networking events, workshops and issue forums from October 3 - 7, 2022.

Building Your Brand (9:00 AM – 10:00 AM)

Learn how your brand can make your business stand out and make an impact in your community. You can build your brand by:

  • Finding Your Voice
  • Developing a Mission Statement
  • Articulating Your Vision
  • Delivering Value
  • Creating Awareness

The workshop is presented by SCORE mentor and workshop speaker Wayne Hunter.

A Path to Building a Family Legacy-Business Ownership through Franchising (10:15 AM – 12:00 PM, concurrent session)

Focus will be on the advantages & wealth building potential of business ownership, how franchising is a viable option, the pros & cons of franchising, exposing the myths of franchising, share franchise success stories, where & how to start exploring your options. This presentation is designed to be an interactive discussion as well as include a Q&A session at the end.

The workshop is presented by SCORE mentor and subject matter expert Jack Wilson.

Startup Basics (10:15 AM – 12:00 PM, concurrent session)

What do I need to do to start a successful business? How do I avoid the traps which lead to failure? How do I keep on the right side of the law? Money, money, money! How do I manage all the ins and outs? What are my first steps for starting a business? Am I ready to start a business?

This workshop is essential for those thinking about starting a business or anyone who has a business idea but needs assistance in getting focused and organized.

 The workshop is presented by SCORE mentor and workshop speaker Daniel Garlen.

Sourcing the Capital for Your Business (1:00 PM – 2:00 PM)

The goal of this workshop is to prepare you to get the funding that you need to start your business or to grow and expand it.

This is an interactive seminar where you will share your objectives with the presenter.

The workshop will walk you through the basics of:

·       Bank Lending

·       Venture and Angel Capital

·       Alternative Financing Strategies

·       Private Investors

You will leave the workshop with an understanding of what banks and investors are looking for when providing capital to small businesses.
